FILTRATION: 10.000
Liters / hour. Two power heads (2.300 Lt/h each) for the biological
filter (138 Liters capacity) and six internal sponge filters (900
Lt/h each) for mechanical / extra biological filtration.
LIGHTING: Four
40W Philips Aquarelle (120 cm) fluorescent tubes, four Penn Plax
Ultra tri lux and five 40W OSRAM Fluora tubes (120 cm) . The four
Philips lamps stay on for 16 hours / day and the other nine for 6
hours / day (timers).
SUBSTRATE: Plain sand (approximately 150
Kg), washed, disinfected and washed again.
AQUASCAPE: Many
rocks (the photo above was taken one week after the setup and
doesn't show the rocks or the canopy which were added later on;
click on thumbnails above for recent photos). Live plants
(Vallisneria gigantea. Echinodorus sp., Egeria densa, Hygrophila
corymbosa, Anubia nana). No CO2 injection.
CHEMISTRY: pH=8.38-8.52,
GH=11, KH=14. Temp : 25.8 degrees C in winter, may exceed 29 degrees
in summer. Fifty percent water changes every other week.
ADDITIVES: Cichlid
vital, Baking soda, Aquarium salt, Liquid Plant fertilizer and Tap
water conditioner. Wound-Ease, Protect-Ease and Clear-Ease (all
Mydor products) and General Remedy (Wardley) are alternatively added
every other week as a precaution measure. Many wounds are the result
of fights for territories and infections will soon appear if
protective agents are not present.
OTHERS: Heavy aeration during the night
(two Rena 400 Air pumps ~ 200 Lt / hour each with four outlets
in total on a timer). Continuous pH and temperature monitoring.
Heated by three 300 W heaters in winter - they are unplugged in
