PTERYGOPLICTHYS MULTIRADIATUS  II

PTERYGOPLICTHYS MULTIRADIATUS
Sailfin pleco

Top photo: March 2000, bottom photo: July 2000.

The fish is now approximately 24 cm in length and still growing. This shot was ruined by an African dropping some sand through its gills (right part of pleco's head) at the time of shooting. Needless to say that after the flash was triggered the pleco disappeared. It is interesting to see the camouflage coloration of the pleco. When compared to the top photo in the previous page, you can observe the difference in the color pattern. When the Sailfin pleco lies on rocks it immediately acquires the dark brown color. When it lies over sand it changes to blotches of light brown (this is also seen in the bottom picture in the previous page although not as clearly as in these shots).

See next page for more photos.
