The
fish is now approximately 24 cm in length and still growing. This
shot was ruined by an African dropping some sand through its gills (right part of pleco's
head) at the time of shooting. Needless to
say that after the flash was triggered the pleco disappeared. It is
interesting to see the camouflage coloration of the pleco. When
compared to the top photo in the previous
page, you can observe the difference in the color pattern.
When the Sailfin pleco lies on rocks it immediately acquires the
dark brown color. When it lies over sand it changes to blotches of
light brown (this is also seen in the bottom picture in the previous
page although not as clearly as in these shots).
