This
fish (single specimen owned) has been got by mistake (!) while
searching for Fossorochromis rostratus (at the “Cottage”, near
Monkey Bay) is, to my best knowledge, a Tilapia
sp., locally known as “Chambo”. It attains a total lenght of
(it’s said) about 17 cm and it’s main, local, use is … FOOD!!!
As a matter of fact we also, during our stay at lake, ate them! Must
add they tasted great but, of course, I will NOT eat him once grown
up. Wild caught fish from my 1999 trip to Lake Malawi
