This is definitely not a cichlid but it is worth seeing. A huge Glycopterichthys gibbiccels, possibly close to 50 cm, one of the largest catfish we have seen in a tank. Photo by Francesco Zezza

This was the last time this event was held in Vichy so it was also a farewell to the Centre Omnisport which hosted it for the last three years. About when we finally learned how to get there from CF airport without getting lost, they decided to change the place ! We may or may not be there again next year but still it was the hell of an experience. Photo by Francesco Zezza

L' Epilogue? Who knows? It is true that traveling to Vichy by air is expensive, indeed. For a family of three this means about 2000 Euro (about 2400 $) for a two day stay. Flights are also inconvenient since there is a 6 hour stay in Milan (both for Francesco and George) while Frank and Hilde have to travel for 10 hours and find someone to take care of their children. Moreover, Johnny has to skip one day from school. Language is also a problem. While most people will try to talk in English, there are some who can't (even at Europcar !). On the other hand, it is truly one of the best places to be if you want to meet more than 700 hobbyists, listen to 4 excellent presentations, see at least 250 tanks.. talk about cichlids, take photos of them and much more. However, the strongest point is the people you meet there. The AFC congress has become the place where we can spend two days with people we can only meet over the internet for the rest of the year. We have met a lot of very kind, interesting and knowledgeable people there.. and it would be a pity to lose contact. Loic de Rezollier, Corinne Toumi, Philippe Hotton, Michel Negrini, Nicole Nourissat, Patrick de Rham, Anton Lamboj, Joerg Albering, Fabio Callegari, Marco Lenac, Yann Fulliquet, Miguel, Sonia and Dave and, of course, the three of us. We know we have forgot a lot of other people... So, Who Knows?
