Pseudotropheus socolofi is one of those African cichlids that justify the characterization "the most colorful freshwater fish" which is given to mbuna. A powder blue which is the same for both sexes is the characteristic of this species. Being an mbuna means that all the basics have to be followed. No more than two males unless you have a very big tank, lots of hiding spaces, food rich in vegetable material, an alkaline pH (more than 8) and a GH about 10. Not exceptionally aggressive it shouldn't be kept with species which are far more aggressive (e.g. Melanochromis, Maylandia zebra, Maylandia lombardoi etc.). The fish grows to a slightly smaller size than most mbuna. All in all, a very beautiful mbuna suitable for any tank. See more photos in next page.
